Ship a product from a different origin

If a product ships from somewhere other than your store's main address (a second warehouse, or a supplier who drop-ships it), give it its own origin. ASM then rates it from that place.

Products from different origins are never packed in the same box, because they leave from different places. Each origin gets its own packages, rated from that origin.

Steps

  1. Go to Products, search for the product and select it.
  2. In the Packing section, find Origin ZIP code (or Origin postal code outside the US). The hint reads "If not your store's main origin. Packed apart from other origins".
  3. Type the ZIP or postal code in Add an origin ZIP code and press Enter.
    • For an origin in another country, type the two-letter country code, a colon, then the postal code. For example AU:5500 for postal code 5500 in Australia.
  4. Select Save Product.

Leave the field empty for products that ship from your main origin. Your main origin is set in Settings. See Set your origin address and default product weight.

Several possible origins

If you have the Multiple Origins extension, you can add more than one origin to a product. ASM uses the origin closest to the shopper. For example, a product with origins 90210 and 10001 ships from 10001 to a shopper in New Jersey and from 90210 to a shopper in California.

Without the extension, ASM uses only the first origin in the field. See Plans and extensions.

Origin set by inventory

If your store sets origins from inventory locations, the field reads Automatically set by your product's inventory and can't be edited. ASM picks the origin from where the product is in stock.

Set origins for many products

Use the origin-zip column in a CSV upload. Separate several origins with spaces: 90210 10001 or AU:5500. See Bulk-update products with a CSV file.

ZIP codes that start with 0 (such as 02134) are exported with an apostrophe in front ('02134) so spreadsheet apps keep the zero. Leave the apostrophe in. ASM removes it when you upload.

Check that it works

In the Shipping Estimator, add the product to a test cart and select a method in the results. The package list shows which origin each package ships from. See Read Shipping Estimator results.
