Set your origin address and default product weight
Your origin is where your packages ship from. Every carrier quote starts there, so ASM can't quote any rate until your origin ZIP or postal code is saved. The default product weight fills in for products that have no weight.
Steps
- Go to Settings → General (section Company details).
- Fill in your origin:
- Origin ZIP code (or Origin postal code outside ZIP-code countries) — required.
- Origin state — the 2 or 3 letter code, for example
TXorON. - Origin country.
- Set Default product weight value. ASM uses it for any product whose weight is empty or 0.00. The unit (lbs., oz., kg or grams) is shown after the box.
- Shopify and BigCommerce: check Currency used in your store matches your store's currency.
- Select Save Settings.
Street address and city
Origin address 1 and Origin city only appear when an add-on or carrier needs them (AvaTax, TaxJar, Sherpa, Spee-Dee or Veeqo). If you see them, fill them in:
- Spee-Dee won't quote without Origin address 1.
- Veeqo and tax services use them for accuracy.
Check that it works
- Open any carrier with a Test connection button and run it. If the origin is missing, you'll see "Add your origin zip under Settings → General, then test again."
- Quote a cart in the Shipping Estimator. See Test your rates with the Shipping Estimator.
Good to know
- Choose a sensible default weight. A product without a weight ships at this weight. Too low, and you undercharge for heavy items. Better still, give every product its real weight. See Rates use the wrong weight.
- The weight unit isn't on this page. We set it for your account. If your products use a different unit, contact support.
- Products that ship from somewhere else can have their own origin. See Ship a product from a different origin.
- Saving checks your phone number and email. If either isn't valid, nothing saves. See Settings: where everything lives.
