Product CSV columns

Before you begin

Bulk-update products with a CSV file

A column that is in your file with an empty cell clears that setting for that product (Yes/No settings become No). A column that is not in your file leaves the setting unchanged. Delete the columns you don't want to change before uploading.

General rules

The first row names the columns. Names aren't case-sensitive, and the order doesn't matter.
id is required. A row without one is skipped.
Columns ASM doesn't recognize are ignored.
Several values in one cell are separated by spaces: AK HI, 2 3 7.
Yes/No columns: Yes turns the setting on. Anything else means No.
Method numbers are the #1, #2… shown on the Shipping Rules page.
Sizes are in inches.

Notes on specific columns

id: on Shopify, this is the variant's SKU, or its numeric variant ID if it has no SKU. Spreadsheet apps can turn long numeric SKUs into numbers like 1.23457E+11, which no longer match. A leading apostrophe ('00123) is removed on upload.

dimensions: 48 20 12 and 48x20x12 both work. Dynamic dimensions such as 20x15x15=0x1x2|5 are written as they are (see Set dimensions, boxes and "ship alone"). If your file has both dimensions and ship-alone, any product with dimensions is set to ship alone, whatever its ship-alone cell says.

multi-box-weights and multi-box-dimensions: one value per box, in the same order. With number-of-boxes 2, write two weights and either two sizes or none.

origin-zip: for an origin in another country, write the country code and a colon: AU:5500. Several origins: 90210 10001. ZIP codes starting with 0 are exported as '02134 so spreadsheets keep the zero. The apostrophe is removed on upload.

flat-ship-rates and markup: a space separates rules, so a space inside one rule is written as ~. In the editor you'd write 1=19.99 3 30 6 45*; in the CSV file it's 1=19.99~3~30~6~45*. Every form is explained in Product markup and flat-rate syntax.

exclude-states and exclude-countries: codes are changed to capitals for you, so ak hi works too.

These appear in your export only if the matching add-on is on. See Add-on product fields.

Columns for other store types

Stores that aren't on Shopify or BigCommerce but have the CSV tools also get these columns. On Shopify and BigCommerce they aren't exported, because the values come from your store.

After upload:

TENT-XL ships alone in a 48x20x12 box, can't use method #4, and isn't offered to Alaska or Hawaii. Its free shipping, flat rates, origin and markup are cleared, because those cells are empty.
MUG-01 ships free on method #1. Its dimensions, flat rates, origin, blocked methods, markup and excluded states are cleared.
CHAIR-2 ships from ZIP 10001, costs $15 once for the group on method #2, and adds $1.99 per unit on every method.

Any column not in this file (for example number-of-boxes or exclude-countries) keeps its current value for all three products.
