No shipping methods at checkout

What you see

Shoppers reach checkout, enter their address, and get no shipping options. What they see depends on your platform:

  • Shopify shows its own message that no shipping options are available.
  • BigCommerce says no shipping methods are available. ASM's message to BigCommerce is "No shipping methods were available to this shopping cart and/or destination."
  • Turbify shows your store's populator error message. By default: "One or more of the items in the shopping cart can not be shipped to your location…"

On every platform, this one message covers many causes. Work through them in order.

Most likely causes

1. ASM is turned off

How to confirm: the admin shows the banner Advanced Shipping Manager is off. Or go to Settings → Shipping and check Enable Advanced Shipping Manager in your store shows Not live.

How to fix: switch it on and select Save Settings. See Turn ASM on (or off) at checkout.

2. ASM isn't connected to your checkout

How to confirm, by platform:

  • Shopify: the Dashboard warns that Carrier Calculated Shipping isn't on for your Shopify store yet, or the banner Your Shopify connection has expired shows.
  • BigCommerce: in BigCommerce's Checkout shipping options, ASM isn't connected in the zone of the address you tried.
  • Turbify: the cart doesn't show the Shipping Methods: box at all.

How to fix: Shopify: turn on Carrier Calculated Shipping, or select Renew the connection on the Shopify banner. BigCommerce: connect ASM to your shipping zones. For Turbify, see Turbify: shipping methods don't load in the cart.

3. No rule matches this cart and address

How to confirm: go to Shipping Estimator, enter the same ZIP code, address type and products, and select Calculate rates. If you see "No shipping methods are available for these products and this address.", no rule passed its conditions.

How to fix: check each rule you expected to show. Does it cover this destination (country, state, ZIP codes)? Is the cart's weight, value or quantity inside the rule's limits? See How shipping rules work.

4. A product isn't in ASM

How to confirm: in the Shipping Estimator, a warning says Product ID "…" is not in our database.

How to fix: see A product is missing in ASM ("not in our database"). On Turbify, publish your store.

5. A product can't ship to this address or by these methods

How to confirm: the cart works without one particular product. Check that product's restrictions in Products.

How to fix: see Stop a product shipping by some methods or to some places. Remove the restriction if it's wrong.

6. Every carrier returned an error

How to confirm: in the Shipping Estimator, scroll below the results. "The following are the shipping methods that resulted with errors:" lists each method with its carrier's message, such as "UPS Error - …" or "FedEx Error - …". Also check for banners like Connect your UPS account or Connect FedEx with its new API.

How to fix: fix the carrier connection in Settings → Carriers. See Carrier error messages and A carrier's rates are missing.

7. A carrier was too slow for checkout

How to confirm: the Shipping Estimator shows rates, but checkout doesn't, or only sometimes. Look at the time next to each method in the estimator: a method taking several seconds can miss checkout's time limit.

How to fix: see Why the estimator and checkout can differ. On Shopify, set backup rates so checkout always has an option: Shopify: set backup rates so checkout never dead-ends.

8. Your trial ended or a payment failed

How to confirm: a banner says Your free trial has ended, Your last payment failed — your account is past due, or There's a problem with your card on file.

How to fix: see Your free trial (and extra trial days) or My payment failed.
