Offer free shipping with a coupon code

Show a "Free Shipping" method only when the shopper uses a coupon code you choose, for example SHIPFREE.

Before you start

  • This uses the Free only with code field in the Free shipping card. It isn't shown on every store. If you don't see it, contact support to ask whether it's available for your store.
  • Create the coupon code in your store platform first. The code in ASM must match it.

How the field works

Free only with code doesn't make a rate free by itself. It makes the whole rule apply only when the shopper uses that code. Upper or lower case doesn't matter.

So you combine it with a rule that costs $0.

Steps

  1. Go to Shipping Rules and select Add a shipping rule.
  2. Method name: Free Shipping.
  3. In Where it ships, choose where the offer is valid.
  4. In How it's priced, select Percentage or flat, and type 0 in Flat rate to total.
  5. In the Free shipping card, type the code in Free only with code, for example SHIPFREE.
  6. Leave Minimum charge empty in Charges and options, so nothing raises the $0 price.
  7. Select Save Rule.

To hide your paid methods while "Free Shipping" shows, add an Another method is offered trigger to them. See Hide a method when another method is offered.

Check that it works

Start a checkout on your store, enter an address, and look at the shipping methods with and without the code. You don't need to complete the order. "Free Shipping" should appear only with the code.
