Connect UPS
Connect your UPS account so ASM can quote UPS rates at checkout. You sign in on UPS's own page, so you never type your UPS password into ASM.
Before you begin
A UPS connection is also used for UPS delivery dates and, if you pick UPS, for checking whether an address is residential or commercial.
Before you start
- A UPS.com login for the UPS account you ship with.
- Your UPS account number (UPS calls it the shipper number), if you want your negotiated rates. It's on your UPS invoices and in your UPS.com account profile.
- Your origin ZIP code saved under Settings → General.
Connect your account
- Go to Settings → Carriers and select UPS.
- Select Connect your UPS account. UPS's sign-in opens in a new tab.
- Sign in to UPS and approve the connection.
- When the tab says "Your UPS account is connected. You can close this tab and refresh your ASM settings page.", close it.
- Refresh the ASM Settings page. The card now says Your UPS account is connected.
If the UPS tab says "This UPS connect link has expired…", close it and select Connect your UPS account again. If it says "Connecting your UPS account failed…", close the tab and try again.
Choose your rates
On the same card:
- Use Published Rates — UPS's standard prices.
- Use My Negotiated Rates — your account's discounted prices. Enter your UPS account number in Shipper number.
Then set:
- Customer classification — the kind of UPS rates to quote. If you're not sure which one matches your account, ask your UPS representative.
- Pickup type — how your packages get to UPS (for example Daily Pickup or Customer Counter).
- Packaging — usually Package (your own box). Choose a UPS envelope, tube, Pak or box only if that's what you ship in.
- Carbon neutral rates — turn on to quote UPS's carbon neutral option.
- Use Parallel FedEx Rates If UPS's Server is Not Responsive — when UPS isn't answering, ASM prices your UPS methods with the matching FedEx service instead, so checkout still shows a rate. This needs a working FedEx connection.
Select Save Settings.
Test it
Select Test connection at the bottom of the card. A working connection shows something like "Connected. UPS quoted $12.34 for a 3 lb box to Hewlett, NY." See Test a carrier connection.
Reconnect or resync
- Card says "Your UPS account is connected." but you want to sign in again (for example after changing UPS accounts): select Need to Resync? and sign in to UPS.
- Card says "UPS stopped accepting this connection." The tile shows Reconnect needed. Select Reconnect your UPS account and sign in to UPS again.
Until UPS is reconnected, your UPS methods don't show at checkout. UPS delivery dates and UPS address checks stop working too.
Common problems
- Banner "Connect your UPS account" — your shipping methods use UPS for rates, delivery estimates or address checks, but no UPS account is connected. Follow the steps above.
- Banner "UPS needs to be reconnected" — UPS stopped accepting your connection. Open the UPS card and select Reconnect your UPS account.
- Negotiated rates look like list prices — check that Use My Negotiated Rates is selected and Shipper number is your UPS account number.
- "UPS Error - …" in the Shipping Estimator — the text after the dash is UPS's own message. See Carrier error messages.
