A method disappeared after I changed another rule

What you see

A shipping method that used to show at checkout is gone. You didn't change that method, but you recently added, edited or deleted a different rule.

For a general checklist, see One shipping method is missing at checkout. This article covers the causes that come from other rules.

Most likely causes

1. Another method's "Show the cheapest" hides it

Show the cheapest on method A hides method B whenever A shows. B's own card gives no hint.

  • Confirm: on the Shipping Rules list, search for other cards that say "when this shows, #N is hidden", where #N is the missing method's number.
  • Fix: if that's not what you want, edit that other method and untick Show the cheapest, or turn its Rate compared to another method trigger off. See Show only the cheaper of two methods.

2. The method's own compare trigger lost its partner

A method with Rate compared to another method is hidden whenever the other method isn't offered, or either price is $0.

  • Confirm: open the missing method's rule and check Advanced triggers. Then check whether the compared method still shows for that cart — maybe you limited it to fewer states, or it became free.
  • Fix: adjust the other method, or turn the trigger off.

3. "Another method is offered" now fires

If the missing method has Hide … when a method is offered, adding or widening that other method hides it more often. With Show, the method needs all listed methods to be offered.

  • Confirm: its card says "Hide if #N applies" or "Show only if … apply".
  • Fix: change the listed methods, or the other method's conditions.

4. Deleting a rule switched this one off

When you delete a rule, a rule of another method whose Another method is offered trigger pointed at the deleted method can have that trigger cleared and be switched off.

  • Confirm: select Off at the top of the Shipping Rules list. Look for the missing method.
  • Fix: switch the rule back on, and set its trigger again if you still need it.

5. A rename merged two methods

Renaming a rule to the name of another existing method moves that rule into the other method.

6. A new rule changed the method's shared settings

Free shipping, minimum and maximum charge and Advanced triggers are shared by all rules of a method. Saving one rule copies them to the others, including a trigger that hides the method.

  • Confirm: open each rule of the method and compare the Advanced triggers cards.
  • Fix: set the triggers you want and select Save Rule once.

7. A trigger chain

A trigger that depends on a method which has its own method-dependent trigger may not work reliably.

Confirm with the Shipping Estimator

Run the same cart in the Shipping Estimator. A method hidden by a trigger can show a reason such as "This method is blocked by the Advanced Shipping Method Matrix because …". See Read Shipping Estimator results.
