BigCommerce: take dimensions from product data
If you already keep each product's width, height and depth in BigCommerce, ASM can copy them into its Dimensions setting every time a product syncs. You then maintain sizes in one place.
Before you begin
Before you turn it on
From now on, every sync replaces the dimensions in ASM with BigCommerce's. Dimensions you typed in ASM or uploaded by CSV are overwritten. A product that doesn't have all three of width, height and depth in BigCommerce has its ASM dimensions cleared, and Ship alone switched off.
- ASM reads product dimensions in inches. If your BigCommerce store uses centimeters, contact support before you turn this on.
- Dynamic dimensions (a box that grows with quantity, written like
20x15x15=0x1x2|5) are kept. ASM doesn't overwrite them. - Fill in width, height and depth in BigCommerce for every product that needs a size, on the variant or on the product. ASM uses the variant's values first.
Steps
- Go to Settings → Shipping.
- Switch on Grab dimension values from product data. The hint reads "This will affect product sync from now on."
- Select Save Settings.
Products pick up their BigCommerce dimensions the next time they sync, for example when you edit them in BigCommerce. To update all products at once, contact support and ask for a full product sync.
What ASM does on each sync
- Depth × width × height from BigCommerce become ASM's Dimensions (length × width × height).
- Unless you use the points system, a product that gets dimensions is set to Ship alone, like any product with dimensions. See Set dimensions, boxes and "ship alone".
- If you use the points system, the setting reads Grab dimension values from product data and calculate the point value: ASM also sets the product's points to width × height × depth. See Box mapping (points system).
Check that it works
- Edit a product in BigCommerce (any small change) and save it.
- In ASM, open the product on the Products page. Dimensions should match BigCommerce.
Other settings from BigCommerce custom fields
Support can also set your store to read other shipping settings (such as free shipping or origin) from BigCommerce custom fields named like the CSV columns. Those fields then overwrite the ASM settings on every sync. Contact support if you'd like this.
