Customize shopper error messages (Turbify)
When ASM can't offer a shipping method, the shopper sees a short message explaining why. On Turbify (Yahoo) stores, and on stores with the Product Shipping Calculator, you can replace ASM's default messages with your own wording.
Steps
- Go to Settings → Error Messages.
- Choose Write my own error messages (plain text, no HTML).
- Edit the messages you want to change (see the list below). Each can be up to 255 characters.
- Select Save Settings.
To go back to ASM's wording, choose Use the default error messages and save.
Keep messages short and tell the shopper what to do next, such as check their ZIP code, pick another method or contact you.
The messages
Each label says when the message is shown:
- A product in the cart is set not to use the selected shipping method — also shown when no rule for that method passed its checks, so it doesn't always mean a product restriction. See "Restricted not to use the shipping method".
- No shipping rule applies to the products in the cart and the shipping address
- A product in the cart is set not to ship to the customer's state
- A product in the cart is set not to ship to the customer's country
- A product in the cart has dimensions that are invalid for a USPS package
- USPS's servers did not respond in time
- USPS's response did not include a rate for the requested shipping method
- A calculation error occurred because of a problem matching shipping rules
- A calculation error occurred (other) — the general message many carrier failures show.
- A PO Box was blocked by shipping rules
- The customer's shipping zip code is invalid — Multiple Origins add-on.
- Product Shipping Calculator: there was an error with the calculation — Product Shipping Calculator add-on.
- Shipping Method Populator: there was an error with the calculation — the message Turbify shoppers see when the populator finds no methods.
If you only have the Product Shipping Calculator (not Turbify), the page is titled Product calculator error messages and has only the calculator message.
Check that it works
Recreate the situation in your store, for example a cart to an address none of your methods serve, and check the message. For a populator message, see Turbify: shipping methods don't load in the cart.
